Special Olympics golf (practice) starts the end of July…when the average temperature in Austin is 96 sweltering degrees. I got this awesome set of pink golf clubs in CA about 18 months ago and they haven’t seen daylight since we moved to Texas last June.
I decided it would be a real shame to let these beauties keep getting dusty, so dad and I went to the driving range yesterday afternoon to hit a bucket of balls. After all, we have to acclimate ourselves to the heat before the season starts, and yesterday it was only 92 degrees. (Trust me, it’s the humidity that kicks your butt.) After a few practice swings, and a bit of instruction from my dad I killed a bucket of balls.
This will be my first year playing SO golf. I will be on a “United Team” which means I will be partnering with my dad. When we compete we will play nine alternate holes. I will play the first one and dad will play the second, and so on. AND we get to use a golf cart! I will need a lot of practice to get back into “golf shape” but this will give me and dad lots of quality time together.
Look out Paula Creamer and Michelle Wie, the Pink Tiger is on the prowl!
